Garuda Wisnu Kencana for People and Beyond

Garuda Wisnu Kencana is a cultural park situated in Bali, Indonesia that showcases a statue of the Hindu deity Vishnu atop the legendary bird Garuda, standing 120 meters tall. The construction of the statue began in the 1990s was designed by a Balinese artist named I Nyoman Nuarta, who is renowned for his sculptures and installations. Nuarta sought to incorporate traditional Balinese and Javanese artistic techniques into the design of the statue, including intricate carvings and metalwork but faced several setbacks due to funding and technical challenges. The development of the GWK park has also been a collaborative effort between local Balinese communities and international investors. The park is intended to promote tourism and provide job opportunities for local residents, while also preserving and promoting Balinese culture and traditions.

Garuda Wisnu Kencana, the cultural park and iconic statue in Bali, has recently introduced new initiatives to promote sustainable tourism practices, support the local community, and highlight Balinese culture. One of the new attractions is 'The Balinese Journey', which offers an immersive and interactive experience that showcases the unique history, traditions, and daily life of the Balinese people. Developed in collaboration with Balinese artists and cultural experts, the attraction aims to accurately portray Balinese culture and provide visitors with a deeper understanding of the island's heritage. In addition to the statue of Lord Vishnu, the park also features several other attractions such as the Lotus Pond, the Amphitheater, and the Street Theater. The park is also a popular venue for cultural performances and events.

Garuda Wisnu Kencana has also launched the 'Artisans of Bali' program, which showcases and sells handmade products by Balinese artisans. The program aims to provide a platform for Balinese artists to showcase their skills and creativity while preserving and promoting traditional arts and crafts. Additionally, the park has received an award for its commitment to sustainable tourism practices, recognizing its efforts to promote renewable energy, reduce plastic waste, and support local communities. The park's various initiatives have reduced its carbon footprint and helped preserve the natural environment. The management team of Garuda Wisnu Kencana is dedicated to promoting sustainable and responsible tourism practices that benefit both visitors and local communities. The park offers a range of attractions and activities, including exhibitions, cultural performances, and culinary experiences. By supporting Balinese culture and preserving the natural environment, Garuda Wisnu Kencana sets an example of sustainable tourism practices in Bali and beyond.

Garuda Wisnu Kencana may be a confirmation to the significance of social legacy conservation, maintainable tourism, and community improvement. It serves as a show for other social parks and tourism goals around the world, illustrating how social tourism can be a effective constrain for positive impact to society.

Approximately, it has been 20 days of Art Mart activities. Yes, as the name implies, this activity does not only provide exhibitions but also aims to trade and buy works of art, from paintings to art stuff such as tote bags or bracelets.

Held from 25 March to 19 April 2023, Art Mart is a new event concept for artists to accompany those who are fasting for the "ngabuburit sale" or art hunting, where visitors can enjoy works, take pictures, as well as shop for the art they want.

The price offered is quite affordable for art stuff like art print, tote bag, bracelets, starting from Rp. 30,000 – 100,000. While, for paintings that are meaningful and not easy to make, of course they will be sold quite expensive, starting from IDR 300,000 – 2,000,000. According to the chairman of the Pondok Seni Foundation, this price is a benchmark given to artists, so paintings sold are not allowed to be sold beyond that price. But don't worry, you can still enjoy these beautiful paintings on the spot, because Galeri Raos will still display them like any other exhibition.

This activity was the first activity for the Raos Gallery to sell a kind of art stuff, according to a member of the Yayasan Pondok Seni Kota Batu. This is because since the first time it was built which on 1982, the Raos Gallery has only been used for exhibitions. "This idea came from the creativity of artists, according to them this activity can be used by visitors to hang out, waiting for iftar time and shopping at the same time" add him.
